Aminoglycosides
These are products of actinomycetes (soil bacteria) or semi-synthetic derivatives of the natural products.
Examples are:
* streptomycin
* kanamycin
* neomycin
* gentamycin

The 70S bacterial ribosome differs in several ways from the 80S eukaryotic ribosome. [Link] The aminoglycosides bind to the 30S subunit of the bacterial ribosome and
* interfere with the formation of the initiation complex
* cause misreading of the mRNA.
